小金井市は、令和３年１０月に、乳幼児医療証の素材を石灰石由来のものに変更し、市民に御利用いただいています（全国初）。
乳幼児医療証は、未就学のお子様が病院・歯科・薬局等を受診する際に、健康保険証と一緒に提示するものです。
一般的な乳幼児医療証は、厚紙で作られています。そのため、医療証を保護するポリプロピレン袋との併用が必要になりますが、プラスチック製品が地球環境に及ぼす影響を踏まえ、市では、代替策を検討しました。そして、最終的に、素材を石灰石由来のものに変更することで、課題を解決することができました。
石灰石は、地球に豊富に存在し、鉱石を素材シートに加工する際に、水を使いません。その点、森林資源や水資源を消費する紙と比べて、地球への負荷が小さく、環境に優しい素材です。また、その高い耐久性・耐水性から、ポリプロピレン袋での保護を不要とし、プラスチックごみを減らします。これらは、ＳＤＧｓ「６水資源の保全」、「１４海洋生態系の保全」、「１５陸域生態系の保全（森林資源保護）」に寄与します。
In October 2021, Koganei City changed the material used for infant medical cards to one derived from limestone, which is now being used by citizens for the first time in Japan.
The Infant Medical Card is to be presented together with the health insurance card when a preschool child visits a hospital, dentist, pharmacy, etc.
A typical infant medical card is made of paper. This requires the use of a polypropylene bag to protect the card. Given the impact of plastic products on the global environment, the city sought alternative solutions. Finally, we were able to solve the problem by changing the material to one derived from limestone.
Limestone is abundant in the earth, and no water is used in processing the ore into material sheets. In this respect, compared to paper, which consumes forest and water resources, limestone is an environmentally friendly material with a smaller impact on the earth. Its high durability and water resistance make it unnecessary to use polypropylene bags for protection, thereby reducing plastic waste. These contribute to SDGs: "Goal 6: Ensure access to water and sanitation for all" "Goal 14: Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources" and "Goal 15: Sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, halt and reverse land degradation, halt biodiversity loss".
